Cootsie
Sightings of mysterious lake monsters seem to abound in Canada, and Dundas is no exception.
The monster of Cootes Paradise, or ‘Cootsie’ as she is sometimes affectionately known, has been the subject of much local conjecture going back over a century. Early reports of strange creatures date back to the period of the Desjardins Canal.
Many believe this mysterious creature is merely a hoax. Others offer the plausible explanation that Cootsie is a large pike or muskellunge, a sturgeon, or simply on oddly shaped log. But some maintain that she is a beast left over from some prehistoric age, or even an ancient spiritual guardian of the marsh.
Whatever she is, Cootsie remains unacknowledged by the eyes of modern science.
